Roskam: Alternative Fuels Needed for Airlines

Congressman Peter Roskam discusses his solutions to our energy needs, and the disappointing lack of bipartisan efforts to bring relief to American families. Congressman Roskam offered an amendment to HR 6063, the NASA Authorization Act, that would have struck from the bill plans for a Deep Space Climate Observatory and instead would have created a research and development initiative for an alternative fuel for commercial aviation. The amendment directed the initiative to consider the need to reduce our reliance on foreign sources of energy, provide stability to the airline industry, and reduce emissions. This effort would have brought energy relief to US consumers and businesses by harnessing American innovation and directing it toward energy solutions for the aviation industry.

Check out a car that could be straight out of a James Bond movie. It runs on compressed natural gas AND gasoline. This type of “flex-car” is very common where we were (some cars even ran on cooking oil!). Just another example of how Brazil is leading the pack on alternative fuels and energy conservation…

Mayor Mike Bloomberg unveiled GreeNYC – the consumer outreach portion of PlaNYC – at a press conference on June 25, 2007 at City Hall. This GreeNYC ad is one of three that will play on local TV stations starting this week, spreading the word about the 10 easy steps everyone can take to reduce energy usage and pollution. The 10 stops are: 1)Change your light bulbs to CFLs, 2) Buy ENERGY STAR appliances, 3) Don’t air condition an empty room, 4) Unplug chargers and appliances when not in use, 5) Switch to green power through your energy provider, 6) Walk or take public transportation, 7) Recycle your glass, metal, paper and plastic, 
Bring your own cloth bag to the grocery store, 9) Use green cleaning products, and 10) Switch to paperless bank statements and online bill paying.
