Solar panels to power a mini refrigerator?
Posted by Admin in Solar Power Panels on November 29th, 2009
Anyone know how many accumulative watts you would need from solar pannels to power a typical 12 volt mini-frige?
Any examples, or info from people using solar pannels and converting the watts into volts, or any application of solar pannels to power anything. Would be greatly appreciated.
What are the variables to look for in determining how many watts I will need?
DC Power Consumption: Variable from 0.5 to 3.9 AMPS Maximum
Please don’t take the following wrong, I don’t mean to insult but may sound that way.
You are a long way away from planing it on your own. You really really need to do a lot of reading first or call a solar dealer and start asking questions.
The question is a great one to show a solar dealer where he needs to start with you. They way you ask your question would take a 500 page book to attempt explain.
My questions to you are:
What brand of mini frige so I can look it up on the net and get the amps and watts. Or you need to provide this information.
Are you a person who is interested in green energy and using Solar Energy Panels or creating your own Home Wind Power, then you are just like myself. I have had a keen interest in green energy every since I studied Architecture many many years ago. At that time I learned that is was possible to build homes that are completely self sufficient which was so compelling to me I had to know more.
How many hours a day do you think the compressor will be running in the unit? This depends on how hot or cold it is where you put the unit.
What are the watt-hours of the unit? How many watts will the unit be using for how many hours?
How many days do you want to be able to run the unit from battery power if the sun don’t come out? Or hours?
Will you be willing to use an MPPT charge controller? Not using an MPPT charge controller will require you to add 1/3 more solar modules because reglar controllers do not down convert which means you waste as much as 30% of your power.
With batteries you have a minium recharging loss of about 15%.
You have voltage loss in wires that are too small.
So you need to read up a little or just find someone who can ask you the right questions and you have to provide the answers.
watts divided by amps = volts
watts divided by volts = amps
volts times amps = watts
watts times hours = watt hours
Why don’t more cars use solar panels to increase energy efficiency?
Posted by Admin in Solar Energy Panels on November 29th, 2009
For instance, solar panels on the roof could give much needed energy to take some stress off of the car battery. And also, what about wind power? When driving down the highway, wouldn’t it be possible to use some of that wind resistance for power? Any thoughts on this? Are you a person who is interested in green energy and using Solar Energy Panels or creating your own Home Wind Power, then you are just like myself. Logistics prevent it- solar panels would not be worth having because of their own size and wind resistance. wind power requires some kind of turbine, and again, the size and where to put it to be useful? maybe in the future, but we don’t have it yet.
How do electric companies justify off-peak energy pricing?
Posted by Admin in Reduce Energy Usage on November 29th, 2009
I’m looking into ways to reduce my home energy bill.
One of the recommendations I find is to run large appliances during off-peak times.
However, I’m confused by this. The gas and electricity meters on my home measure only usage, so if the utility company only reads these meters monthly, there is no way they can correlate my usage to a time-of-day-based pricing package, unless pricing is based on regional grid usage.
Put another way, I do not currently believe that off-peak energy pricing can work unless a singificant percentage of consumers on the grid run large appliances during off-peak times.
Can someone disillusion my thinking, or clarify how it is that I, as an individual, and irrespective of the energy usage patterns of other consumers, can possibly achieve lower energy bills by using electricity at off-peak times?
I am confused by what you are asking. Your title is "How do electric companies justify off-peak energy pricing" but the body of your message seems to ask technically how one meter can measure off peak electrical usage.
Are you a person who is interested in green energy and using Solar Energy Panels or creating your own Home Wind Power, then you are just like myself. I have had a keen interest in green energy every since I studied Architecture many many years ago. I have time of day electrical pricing and when I got on this plan, they did swap out my electrical meter to one that also records time. Meter technology is quite advanced today. Additionally, since that was done, they have once again swapped out the meter and now the meter is read remotely and I can read it remotely and get all sorts of usage information from the internet. My point is, if this is what you are asking, if is very easy technically for them to do and there are multiple ways they have to select from.
Now, if your question is really intended to ask how can companies justify off-peak pricing, again, no problem. Peak pricing is clearly going to be higher, after all, the electrical company may have to start up another plant in the afternoons to cover peak demand. Off peak pricing is lower because conversely, they can turn off the more expensive generating plants over night when demand is lower.
how can i build my own solar panels??? plz guide me….:)?

Here are some projects that people did http://www.instructables.com/tag/?q=solar+panel&limit%3Atype%3Aid=on&type%3Aid=on&type%3Auser=on&type%3Acomment=on&type%3Agroup=on&type%3AforumTopic=on&type%3AforumTopic=on&sort=none .
I would add, be careful of web sites that suggest you can power your entire home cheaply with home built panels, if you will just send them a few dollars for the information. It’s simply not that cheap or easy. If it were, you would see lots of people doing it.Are you a person who is interested in green energy and using Solar Energy Panels or creating your own Home Wind Power, then you are just like myself. Homemade Solar Panels?
Posted by Admin in HomeMade Solar Panels on November 29th, 2009
Has anyone had any experience building their own solar panels for home use? I have seen on the news lately that people are utilizing solar panels to power their hot water heaters to save on their power bill.
I found an interesting article that describes utilizing solar power in the home. You can read it here http://ezinearticles.com/?Make-Your-Own-Solar-Panels—Eliminate-Your-Power-Bill&id=3262731. It’s a pretty basic article that gives you the gist of it.
Suggest me to make wind power in the home?
Posted by Admin in Home Wind Power on November 29th, 2009
Hi yahoo answers give me the guidelines for generating the wind power…
A typical wind power system comprises of a tower and five blades to churn out wind energy. The length of the wind tower varies depending on the location of your house. You may need a longer tower if you are in low-wind zone; you can work with a shorter tower if you live by the beach. Using a wind generator, this wind energy can be converted into useful electrical energy to be employed at home for running various electrical appliances. You can even store the power generated for later use, making wind generators more efficient than convention power systems.
Atheists, how does science dispute the idea that the construction of the universe is specifically designed to?

support life here on earth?
Considering all the gravitational forces existing: the rotation of the earth, the orbit of the moon around the earth, the orbit of the earth and planets around the sun, the solar systems journey through the galaxy, the galaxy’s journey through the universe and the universes continuing expansion. Seems to me that they are all perfectly placed to support life here on earth.
I know this question should be asked under a science category but most of you claim to have extensive understanding of matters of complex scientific theory, where simple fundies like me only understand the WORD of GOD.
And please use your own words not pages of cut and paste dribble. The way I see it, if you can’t explain it in your own words then you don’t understand it yourselves
I am not an atheist however I am not convinced that there is a creator so I try to study and learn in order to find the best answer at the moment I would be called an agnostic ( one who is unsure of the truth but is looking for the truth)
There are 2 possibilities:
!) A creator developed this earth so that it would be a great home for all of his creations.
2) Because this planet has such a great environment life has formed and developed on this planet.
Lets just hope that no matter how we got here , MAN does not screw it up.
Are you ready to be raped by congress?

Does anyone want to volunteer to pay $5,000 extra in taxes this year?
Whether you be poor, rich, or even middle class, cap on trade is here. Amazingly enough most people do not know about it or do not fully understand what it will do for them. The basic idea is that the Federal Government will create a figure that it thinks is an appropriate amount of carbon emissions. It will then create a hefty tax for any additional carbon emissions.
So what are the results?
Coal, natural gas, and anything that emits "greenhouse" gases will be taxed. This is not only going to effect your electricity costs. Corporation use gasoline and energy to produce everything from tampons to food. There will even be a tax associated with tilling a field because of the carbon the soil will release.
Inevitably corporations will transfer the tax onto the consumer. If you don’t believe that to be true, listen here to our genius of a President openly discuss that fact:

We are not talking about a few buck here. We are talking about trillions of dollars that our liberal, progressive, moronic government wants to spend in order to fix a problem that is not even scientific fact. There are numerous problems with Gore’s assertion and also with the ways we are trying to rectify the energy crisis.
Whether you are liberal or conservative, no matter what you believe, exposing yourself to opinions that are in contradiction with your own is not a bad thing. It ensures not only that you will be educated enough to comment on something, it also ensures that you understand the entirety of the issue you are discussing. Because of this I would ask anyone that wishes to respond to this discussion to at least read a few pages of the following link to see what many scientists are saying about our government’s new policies and ideas about anthropogenic warming:

In an hour or so your congress will put to vote a bill that will cost every American thousands of dollars each year. If you think for a second that you will be okay because you are poor you are sadly mistaken. I currently make 35-40,000 dollars a year. I own a 1500 square foot house that was built 70+ years ago. Because of this my house is under-insulated. If I were wealthy and this bill passed, I would buy solar panels and switch to geothermal heating. Unfortunately because I am merely middle class, I will not be able to afford the immense increase in my taxes, food costs, transportation cost, etc, that will be inevitable if this bill passes.
So what I ask is this: can anyone honestly say that they believe this to be the correct course of action. While you are being bombarded with Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett stories, you congress is about to pass a bill that will put an IMMENSE financial strain on families that are already struggling. I am asking that no matter what your beliefs that you take a few moments to look at these two links. If you are one of those people that has an opinion that is based on little more than what you have been taught via unqualified public school teachers, or by our politicians, or by the media, please, take a few moments to look at those links and share your opinion about what is about to happen.
Here is a phone number that will allow you to contact your congress person’s office. This is URGENT. This bill goes to vote in a matter of minutes. Good luck getting through.

People from every income level should understand this bill will increase every persons cost of living…consider that there is not one single thing in our lives this bill won’t increase. Every single bite of food that goes in our mouths is somehow produced by energy so food will go up if for no other reason the fuel cost related to getting food to the grocery stores. Every home in this country will be required to meet California standards and if they don’t you will be required to bring your home up to California standards in order to sell it. There is 1300 pages to this bill and it is being pushed through without being read by the House…last time this happened AIG people got million dollar bonus’.
Do you need a building permit to install roof-mounted solar pool heating panels for your house in Las Vegas?
