A Smart Grid for Intelligent Energy Use:
The Smart Grid involves the use of communications and computing technology to transmit and distribute energy more efficiently. This video describes the smart grid and how it will reduce our carbon footprint through energy efficiency and the integration of renewable sources of energy.
Featuring interviews recorded at the IEEE Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles: Accelerating Innovation Conference (2007) and the IEEE Energy 2030 Conference (2008).
Are you a person who is interested in green energy and using Solar Energy Panels or creating your own Home Wind Power, then you are just like myself. I have had a keen interest in green energy every since I studied Architecture many many years ago. At that time I learned that is was possible to build homes that are completely self sufficient which was so compelling to me I had to know more.
Produced by IEEE and ScienCentral, Inc., with funding from IEEE Power & Energy Society, IEEE-USA, and the IEEE New Technology Directions Committee (NTDC).

Since when were the …
Since when were the degregulated PRIVATE utility companies part of the government? Since they are not, this cannot be considered socialism. There is the possibility of control via a private organization, but Americans are already used to that. It’s called the Federal Reserve.
In order to facilitate change in one facet of life, other facets must also change. In my opinion, this is for the better, because this jam we are in can most likely be blamed on unchecked capitalist expansion.

just using growing as an example. i do not grow marijuana . but this would make it much easier to track marijuana growers and then have them put in prison to get stabbed and raped just for having some plants . i call bullshit .

I am curious to see …
I am curious to see if this kind of technology will get to the point where convicts can only use so much electricity, and political rivals or other dissidents are punished by taking away their electricity; but then quickly blaming it on “just a mistake”.

I understand that the government doesn’t care when I plug in my toaster, but I still get the feeling it is just another way for them to make my choices for me. And I’m sorry but I refuse to give up any right, no matter how insignificant .

I agree, I just …
I agree, I just added the “possibility” for all the nay sayers. I think it will be a great new technology that, after we’ve implemented it, we can sell and maintain all over the world the way we have been doing with important inventions for the last two hundred years. Great way to advance our economy once again.

I’m not sure how …
I’m not sure how monitoring energy usage is socialism. If the energy companies can monitor, they probably can respond to outages and plan for peak usage better. What you do with the information you collect is key.
For example, if they decide to charge you MORE because you use more energy, I’d have a problem with that. But to be clear, that has NOTHING to do with socialism. That’s scary big business.
Believe me, there are more than enough “socialist” plans out there to worry about…

Pros: Reduce …
Pros: Reduce customer cost, Increase company profit, Increase serviceability, Better customer support, Create hundreds of thousands of high paying jobs, Save the earth with smaller carbon footprint, $ell technology to other countries.
Cons: Possible privacy concern, Expensive technology to implement.
Looks like the pros outweigh the cons to me. The costs of implementation gets paid back by the higher company profit and sales of technology to foreign countries. All that’s left is the privacy.
